I have Irish ancestors who landed in America in the 1890s. If I had their letters or journals I would probably see how they adopted A.erican slang in the final decade of the 1800s.
Eyes were called daylights, ogres, peepers, and squinters.
Mouths were clamshells, muzzles, and rattle traps.
Hands were saddles, fins or flippers.
